Privacy fail: Pictures cropped, redacted by Google Pixel phones can be recovered
Google Pixel phones have a security flaw in their image-editing app Markup, which can allow cropped or redacted screenshots to be potentially recovered. The flaw lies in how Google's image-editing app Markup truncates PNG files after they are edited, which it does not do properly, leaving the cropped-out portion lurking at the end of the data string. Google has patched the bug, which will be tracked as CVE-2023-21036, in its March Pixel security updates. However, there is no way to unshare screenshots that are vulnerable to the exploit that have already been passed around.
