New Cylance Ransomware Targets Linux and Windows, Warn Researchers
Cybersecurity researchers at Palo Alto Networks Unit 42 have discovered a new strain of Cylance Ransomware, which has already claimed several victims. The ransomware targets both Linux and Windows devices, encrypting files and appending them with a “.Cylance” extension. A text file titled “Read Me” is added to all encrypted files’ folders, containing the attacker’s ransom note. The attackers have warned against any attempt to restore or change the files, as it would destroy the private key, which means the data will be lost forever. Cylance is a cybersecurity company owned by BlackBerry Ltd. that is known for mitigating and preventing ransomware attacks on enterprise organizations.
